The State Visit of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to the Republic of Korea is currently underway, marking a significant milestone in the bilateral relations between Italy and South Korea. The visit, which began on January 17, represents the first official bilateral visit by an Italian Prime Minister to Seoul in 19 years.
During the initial day of the visit, Prime Minister Meloni paid homage at the Seoul National Cemetery, underscoring the importance of shared values and mutual respect that underpin the relationship between the two countries.
Today, Prime Minister Meloni is scheduled to hold bilateral summit talks with President Lee Jae Myung. The meeting is expected to focus on strengthening cooperation across key strategic areas, including trade and investment, artificial intelligence, defense, semiconductors, and other advanced technologies. The talks will mark the second meeting between the two leaders, following their first encounter on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly in New York last year.
Italy currently stands as South Korea’s fourth-largest trading partner within the European Union, while cultural and people-to-people exchanges remain strong, with approximately one million Korean nationals visiting Italy each year.
The ongoing visit reflects a shared commitment to deepening political dialogue and enhancing economic and industrial collaboration, opening new avenues for partnership between the Italian and Korean business communities.
The Italian Chamber of Commerce in Korea welcomes this important moment in bilateral relations and looks forward to the outcomes of the summit talks, which are expected to further reinforce cooperation between Italy and the Republic of Korea across strategic sectors.
